The Personal Chef Industry

A Personal Chef Service is a new and unique service business offering busy people a delicious, nutritious and affordable solution to the age old question of “what’s for dinner?”  By offering personalized meals, customized menus, incredible food and un-paralleled service, Personal Chef Services have begun revolutionizing the way Americans view the evening meal, or breakfast and lunch, for that matter!  With the hectic pace of life these days, we are finding it increasingly more difficult to maintain a healthy, affordable diet.  The Personal Chef Service is the answer!

In the United States there are approximately 6,000 Personal Chef Service businesses in operation and over 5,000 of those businesses are members of the United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA). There are over 60,000 clients utilizing the services of a Personal Chef spending an estimated $200 Million Dollars annually.

The things a chef will do!

The USPCA projects that within 5 years the number of Personal Chef Service businesses will increase to over 20,000 businesses in the U.S. serving nearly 300,000 clients spending over $1 Billion Dollars as the answer to their “what’s for dinner” question.

Entrepreneur Magazine has for the fourth year in a row designated a Personal Chef Service as "one of the Fastest Growing Businesses in the Country", and the USPCA is the only culinary organization to be listed, since 1993, in Entrepreneur Magazines “Top Business 400”.

The United States Personal Chef Association is presently growing by 100 members each month and has grown to 45 Local Chapters providing each Personal Chef Service business owner with the support necessary to build a successful business.

The USPCA offers the only nationally recognized certification of Personal Chefs - the designation of Certified Personal Chef (CPC).

The USPCA is the recognized leader in the Personal Chef industry and is the only culinary organization authorized to instruct the flight staff aboard the US Government Diplomatic Fleet in on-board preparation of personalized meal preparation.

The Personal Chef Industry Today

The Future...

Having begun in the late 80’s, the Personal Chef industry has developed into a full blown, internationally-recognized career field having true and absolute benefit to a wide variety of clients and situations. With the ever-demanding work and home schedules and commitments, the need for a Personal Chef service is expected to increase at almost alarming rates. For many, simply finding the time each day to prepare the type and quality of food desired is no longer an option. Without a Personal Chef service, the alternatives are frequent restaurant visits, fast food outlets or relying on instant dinners from a box. While this is not their first choice, many households face these minimally acceptable options each and every day.

National exposure to the tremendous benefits realized from a Personal Chef service has created demand that is still in its infancy. With more than 6,000 active Personal Chefs providing these invaluable services, industry experts predict the number of Personal Chefs to be in excess of 50,000 by the end of this decade.

As with any service-based industry that provides unique, custom and desirable service for the client, the Personal Chef industry has barely begun to satisfy the demand and is certain to enjoy an extended period of continued rapid growth, both nationally and internationally.

Personal Chefs Experience Unprecedented Growth

The United States Personal Chef Association has grown to over 5,000 members in just under five years.  This growth in the Personal Chef Service industry is directly related to the public’s demand for Personal Chefs.

In 1996 the United States Personal Chef Association had 1,000 members and passed along 1,030 referral names to it’s members from middle-American moms and dads who were looking for the services of a Personal Chef.  In 1997 the referrals climbed to 3,200.  In 1998 the referrals were 7,200 and in 1999 over 15,000 folks were looking to hire a Personal Chef.  This dramatic growth reflects the public’s understanding of the benefits of hiring a Personal Chef.

“Three years ago the average American didn’t know what a Personal Chef service was and today the average American has at least heard of a Personal Chef service or knows someone who is now using a Personal Chef,” said David MacKay, Executive Director and founder of the United States Personal Chef Association.

The United States Personal Chef Association was founded in 1991 by the husband and wife couple of David MacKay and Susan Titcomb.  Their foresight has lead to the hottest and fastest growing career path in the culinary arts.  Currently the United States Personal Chef Association membership ranks grow by 100 new Personal Chefs each and every month.
